The parasternal long axis view is a good view to profile the mitral valve apparatus. In this view, one can appreciate the thickened, shortened chordal appratus with restricted leaflet excursion and thick membranous cords. Turbulent flow across the mitral valve can be seen from this view along with mitral regurgitation. Varying degrees of left atrial dilation can be seen secondary to mitral stenosis and/or regurgitation.
