- Echocardiographic Assessment: Parasternal Long Axis
- Assess for pericardial effusion
- anteriorly, posteriorly and circumferentially
- measure fluid by 2D at end diastole
- Sweep to tricuspid valve and assess tricuspid inflow variability spectral Doppler
- Assess for right ventricular diastolic collapse
- Assess ventricular systolic function qualitatively
- Transducer placed on the left sternal border
- 3rd or 4th intercostal space
- Notch pointed towards the patient's right shoulder (11 o'clock)
