• Bicuspid aortic valve with thickened leaflets and doming during systole
  • Turbulent flow across the aortic valve during systole consistent with probable aortic stenosis

The subcostal long axis view of the left ventriculr outflow tract is an excellent view to assess for aortic stenosis or regurgitation in the setting of a bicuspid aortic valve.

  • Transducer on abdomen just below xyphoid process
  • Notch at 3 o'clock
  • Transducer tilted slightly anteriorly (tail down)
  • Aortic stenosis
  • Aortic regurgitation
  • Left ventricular hypertrophy or dilation
