• Cor Triatriatum Sinister
    • Left atrial membrane present in mid portion of left atrium
  • Cor Triatriatum Sinister
    • Turbulent flow is noted across a restrictive left atrial membrane (turbulent red color Doppler jet)
  • Cor Triatriatum Sinister
    • Spectral Doppler pattern across a left atrial membrane in a patient with Cor Triatriatum revealing stenosis across the membrane with a mean gradient of 8 mmHg.
  • Cor Triatriatum Sinister
    • Thick appearing cor membrane within the left atrium
    • Severely dilated right ventricle
    • Bowing of the interventricular septum into the LV (consistent with suprasystemic RV pressures)
    • Severely depressed RV systolic dysfunction
    • Moderately depressed LV systolic function
  • Cor Triatriatum Sinister
    • Restrictive cor membrane with a small amount of flow via two small fenestrations
    • Severely dilated right ventricle
    • Bowing of the interventricular septum into the LV (consistent with suprasystemic RV pressures)
    • Upper mild mitral regurgitation
    • Severely depressed biventricular systolic dysfunction
    • Frequent atrial ectopy with runs of atrial tachycardia

Echocardiographic Assessment: Parasternal Long Axis

  • Assess for presence of left atrial membrane and membrane morphology (location, size, single opening/fenestrated by 2D and color Doppler)
  • Assess mean gradient across membrane (pulse and continuous wave spectral Doppler)

  • Transducer placed on the left sternal border
  • 3rd or 4th intercostal space
  • Notch pointed towards the patient's right shoulder (11 o'clock)
