• Right and left ventricular dysfunction
  • Right ventricular dilation
  • Left atrial dilation 
  • Aortic valve appears dysplastic with doming (probable bicommissural aortic valve)

The parasternal long axis view is a good view to assess ventricular size and function in a patient with coarctation of the aorta. 

  • Transducer placed on the left sternal border
  • 3rd or 4th intercostal space
  • Notch pointed towards the patient's right shoulder (11 o'clock)
  • Right or left ventricular dilation
  • Left atrial dilation
  • Right of left ventricular dysfunction
  • Ventricular septal defects
  • Aortic stenosis or regurgitation
