• Zoomed up view of aortic valve and its corresponding cusps
  • Tricommissural aortic valve with thin mobile cusps

  • No aortic regurgitation
  • Normal laminar flow across the aortic valve

This view obtained from the parasternal short axis is the ideal view to profile the three aortic valve coronary cusps.

  • Left sternal border
  • 3rd or 4th intercostal space
  • Notch pointing towards left shoulder (1-2 o'clock)
  • Use machine zoom and narrow sector width profile aortic valve in center of screen
  • Bicuspid aortic valve
  • Anomalous coronary artery (left or right)
  • Endocarditis (aortic valve vegetation)
  • Ventricular septal defect
  • Aortic regurgitation (defines mechanism and origin of regurgitation)
