• Normal caliber left ventricular outflow tract, aortic valve and ascending aorta
  • The aortic valve leaflets appear thin with good leaflet excursion
  • Normal left ventricular systolic function
  • The superior vena cava connects normally to the right atrium
  • Normal laminar flow across left ventricular outflow tract, aortic valve and supravalvar aortic region
  • No aortic regurgitation

This subcostal view is an excellent view to profile the left ventricle, caliber and flow across the LVOT and aortic valve.

  • Transducer on abdomen just below xyphoid process
  • Notch at 3 o'clock
  • Transducer tilted slightly anteriorly (tail down)
  • Ventricular septal defect
  • Left ventricular dilation of hypertrophy
  • Subaortic membrane
  • Aortic valve abnormalities (aortic stenosis, aortic regurgitation, aortic valve prolapse)
  • Aortic root dilation or aneurysm
